Angela Hunter was born and raised in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia, She has been creating artwork of some kind all her life. From 2000 to 2004, she attended Valdosta State University, where she studied art and design. She took a year of watercolor classes and fell in love with the method. While studying interiors and architecture, she was particularly inspired by the natural forms and curved lines of the Art Nouveau style. She also studied the architecture of Antoni Gaudi in depth and was influenced by his unique style. Angela graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree, specializing in Interior Design.
After graduation, she worked as an interior designer with Ethan Allen in Northern California for two years and continued to create art for friends and relatives in her spare time. She enjoyed creating watercolor landscapes, animals, and floral scenes. It was her work as an interior designer that grew her appreciation for wood grain, intricate patterns, and architectural lines of furniture. Much of this is incorporated into her work today. She also became skilled at color matching and deciphering which led to her ability to match clients’ custom paintings to their decor. Her husband’s profession as an Air Force pilot has also influenced her work, which can be seen in the watercolor aircraft series.
After becoming a mom, Angela decided to focus on her family and artwork. She took oil painting classes and also perfected working with acrylics. Being a mother helped Angela find a connection with the whimsy of children’s art. Reading numerous children’s books every day and experiencing imagination through her own children has opened up a whole new world of art. Angela now considers herself a “jack of all trades” to a certain degree. She is skilled at watercolor, oils and acrylics and has painted everything from pet portraits to rocket ships. Above all, she loves to create and will always be creating. She strives to create beautiful pieces of artwork to compliment and enhance clients’ decor and loves to take on new artistic challenges.
In 2013, Angela began teaching painting classes at The Downtown Studio in Warrensburg, Missouri. She enjoys helping adults discover their own creativity through watercolor and acrylic painting. Coming up with new and exciting projects has been an enjoyable creative challenge.
